Mom

Molly Elaine Fleetwood Rodway, 6/5/1942 - 1/19/2021 Things I loved about mom.... (this is a tiny sample, the list is too long to ever type...) * Her long flowing hair - she never had any sort of trendy hairdo, just a natural wavy mane, feminine and low-maintenance, she did not see hairdressers but always looked nice. * Her beautiful sparkling green eyes * Her infectious, free, enthusiastic laughter * Her love for all animals, wild or tame, big or small, always attentive and curious and caring and always so gentle - no animal was ever punished in our home, only rewarded for good behavior. * Her love and skill in cooking and baking - fresh healthy food every day. So many beautiful cookies at Christmas. * Her musical training. Mom taught piano and also knew all the classics, and had wonderful taste. There was always music playing in the house, every day, and it was always high quality, from Beethoven or Copeland to John Williams or medieval dulcimer recordings, folk or jazz, she even let

Memories and dreams for summer

Image
This week payment was processed for a Legacy Bench in honor of Molly Rodway in Wilshire Park, in NE Portland. I basically grew up in this park, we lived half a block from it and visited almost daily for two decades. In Molly's last years of life, we visited this park every week. Somehow every time I picked her up from her memory care facility, the skies would clear and the sun would peek out, even all winter long this happened, each time we arrived at the park to walk. And we would sit at the bench on the walking path and she would exclaim, "It's a beautiful day!" It took me until last week to take down my Christmas tree this year. She was still alive when I put it up, and mom loved Christmas. So it was hard to take it down. When I did, I came across this little photo album of old Christmas photos, including some really sweet shots of mom, so I thought I would share them, here.  We will have a Celebration of Life and memorial bench dedication party for mom at Wilshir

Oregonian Obituary for Molly Elaine (Fleetwood) Rodway

Image
Molly's obituary went live today, it can be found here:  Molly Elaine (Fleetwood) Rodway obituary    https://obits.oregonlive.com/obituaries/oregon/obituary.aspx?n=molly-elaine-rodway-fleetwood&pid=197680145 In lieu of flowers, we chose local animal shelter Pixie Project for donations in Molly's memory: pixieproject.org/donate   Pixie Project not only shelters all animals regardless of their needs, but also helps underserved communities and low income pet owners care for their pets. Molly loved animals, we think this is a beautiful way to honor her memory. A Memorial dedication/celebration in honor of Molly will take place this coming summer 2021 in Wilshire Park, in Portland - I will update this website with information when we are able to plan and set a date for this event. Hopefully I can find a way to stream some of it online for those who can't attend in person. Check back here for details or email Sarah anytime: serafaery@yahoo.com or mollyerodway@gmail.com <3

Missing Molly

This is Sarah. I have submitted Molly's obituary to The Oregonian, and will post a link here once it is finalized and published. One thing that I've discovered through this process, as people have slowly begun to reach out and share memories and stories, is how vividly people remember Molly's bright spirit, her wit, vivacity, her smile, and her laughter. Being reminded of her days that were so full of joy, friendship, community activities, and fun, has been really nice.  The last ten years have been very hard in many ways, due to her illness (dementia). But I also had the benefit of repairing our relationship and reconnecting to her in a different way, taking the role of caretaker, and learning to care for one another in a different way. Even in her limitations, Molly always found joy in our visits. She would say consistently, every time I saw her (usually weekly), "It's a beautiful day!" Everything we ate as "wonderful." All of the music we listened

Molly Elaine Rodway (née Fleetwood) passed away peacefully, January 19th 2021 at 4:45pm, surrounded in love. Her two children, Shawn and Sarah Jurgensen were present. We were with her for her last 24 hours, holding hands, embracing, sharing stories and blessings and prayers, and listening to music while she so gently faded.  Please email MollyERodway@gmail.com for an invitation to an online Celebration of Life in February and for info about a memorial service at Wilshire Park in the spring, and for donation options in the coming weeks. We would love to hear your stories and experiences, and anything you would like to share with us about your memories of our beloved Molly.   Thank you. We are all made of stars. ❤                                       ~Sarah sarahjurgensen@gmail.com 503-720-5486
