Donations in Memory

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in honor of Molly Rodway to local animal shelter Pixie Project, pixieproject.org/donate or by mail, Pixie Project, 510 NE MLK Blvd, Portland, OR 97232

A Memorial dedication/celebration in honor of Molly will take place this coming summer 2021 in Wilshire Park, in Portland - I will update the website with information when we are able to plan and set a date for this event. Hopefully I can find a way to stream some of it online for those who can't attend in person.

Donations to the Wilshire Park Legacy bench dedication in memory of Molly can be sent to Sarah via Paypal, serafaery@gmail.com or venmo @serafaery (Sarah Jurgensen).  

The bench dedication is very important to us, as our family and many of Molly's friends and students associate her so closely with this park, and she loved it so much. The legacy bench adoption is pricy, proceeds go to support this beloved park. 

Any help assisting Sarah to make this dream come true is much needed and greatly appreciated.

 This week payment was processed for a Legacy Bench in honor of Molly Rodway in Wilshire Park, in NE Portland. I basically grew up in this park, we lived half a block from it and visited almost daily for two decades. In Molly's last years of life, we visited this park every week. Somehow every time I picked her up from her memory care facility, the skies would clear and the sun would peek out, even all winter long this happened, each time we arrived at the park to walk. And we would sit at the bench on the walking path and she would exclaim, "It's a beautiful day!" It took me until last week to take down my Christmas tree this year. She was still alive when I put it up, and mom loved Christmas. So it was hard to take it down. When I did, I came across this little photo album of old Christmas photos, including some really sweet shots of mom, so I thought I would share them, here.  We will have a Celebration of Life and memorial bench dedication party for mom at Wilshir

Missing Molly

This is Sarah. I have submitted Molly's obituary to The Oregonian, and will post a link here once it is finalized and published. One thing that I've discovered through this process, as people have slowly begun to reach out and share memories and stories, is how vividly people remember Molly's bright spirit, her wit, vivacity, her smile, and her laughter. Being reminded of her days that were so full of joy, friendship, community activities, and fun, has been really nice.  The last ten years have been very hard in many ways, due to her illness (dementia). But I also had the benefit of repairing our relationship and reconnecting to her in a different way, taking the role of caretaker, and learning to care for one another in a different way. Even in her limitations, Molly always found joy in our visits. She would say consistently, every time I saw her (usually weekly), "It's a beautiful day!" Everything we ate as "wonderful."
